Steilacoom Real Estate
Steilacoom is Washington state's oldest incorporated town, and a focal point for the state's maritime history. Founded by Maine sea captain Lafayette Balch in the 1850s, the community was an important lumber manufacture and export point during its early days, and grew during the late 19th century into a diverse city with a wide spectrum of ecomonic activity. As the Steilacoom real estate area expanded, it saw the construction of Washington's first sawmill, first jail, and first Catholic church. Steilacoom's extensive local ferry system also serves as the gateway to some of Puget Sound's finest ocean communities, including Anderson Island, Ketron Island, and McNeil Island.
