Burien, Washington, is south of Seattle and was incorporation in 1993, with a population of 31,881 (2000 census). Burien, a 100-year-old community with a rich heritage, has been busy defining and redesigning itself as a vibrant King County city. Burien's downtown area is currently undergoing several renovations which will be completed in 2009. These renovations include an entire rebuild of a stretch of 1st Avenue South from 160th St to 148th St. In addition, a new town center is under construction that will include a new Burien Library, 70,000 square feet (7,000 mē) of retail space, and more than 400 condominiums with a plaza/park area in the middle and a parking garage below.
