Buckley, Washington is a scenic small town in central Pierce County. The community was founded for coal transport in the 1870s, and was originally named "Perkin's Prairie." It was later renamed Buckley, and grew steadily over the next few decades. Buckley was one of the first towns in Pierce County with its own school system, post office, and newspaper, the Buckley Banner.
